Because of the Solid Waste Management Act, there have been an increasing number of businesses seeking to find ways of disposing of materials such as plastic and glass as well as hazardous materials, some of which can be commonly found in the home. Having a good solid waste management program is important to properly dispose of materials which are considered to be recyclable. In recent years there have been more and more households across the country making efforts to go “green” and contribute in some way to the recycling of certain materials which should not simply be thrown away and gotten rid of by traditional means.

There are a variety of companies available that provide these types of services. By taking the time to look for the right one, you will be able to get rid of all the materials that need to be recycled as quickly and efficiently as possible. This process is one which is important, especially for specific hazardous materials which pose a threat to people who are exposed to them for long periods of time. Entire cities spend millions of dollars each year on this type of waste management to ensure the overall safety of the public.

While there are many choices to consider when it comes to finding a business that provided these services, there are only a select few worth serious consideration. Managing toxic or hazardous waste materials is important for the sake of everyone and should be done so responsibly, however not all businesses follow safety regulations and guidelines. This makes it all the more important to find the right company that can do the job safely and thoroughly.

Windham Solid Waste Management is a service provider for recycling materials from plastic to hazardous waste. Their service area is in the southern portion of Windsor and Windham counties. This resource is funded by tax dollars and was designed to help the community properly dispose of and ecologically maintain their wastes. Here you can drop off any type of recyclable material as Windham Solid Waste Management accepts everything from plastic bottles to paper products and even glass containers.

Windham also offers a full range of services for household hazardous materials. There are restrictions on what are allowed, however, and it is important to stick to these guidelines so that you’re not left with full boxes of hazardous materials you can’t get rid of and they’re not wasting tax dollars to make them sort out and then find another way to dispose of materials. Some of the materials that they accept are paints (no latex based paints), mercury containing products (mercury vapor bulbs, thermometers, etc.), and even the increasingly popular fluorescent light bulbs.

Outside of their recycling and waste disposal services, Windham Solid Waste Management also has a composting project aimed at both residential users as well as commercial users. As an added benefit, the things that aren’t really recyclable, yet, and can be re-used, even if in non-conventional ways, also have a place at Windham. Through their Swap Shop program it is possible for anyone who wants to get rid of certain materials that can be used still to do so. Anyone is welcome to pickup or drop off without having to do both. Check their website, WindhamSolidWaste.org, for a list of acceptable recyclables, haz-mat waste, and swap shop items.
